Leonardo NJ Homes for Sale

Local Knowledge. Shore Results.Updated October 2026

Off Concord Avenue in Leonardo, the state-owned Leonardo State Marina rents 175 boat slips year-round on Sandy Hook Bay. Nearby, the Navy's Earle waterfront sends a two-mile trestle and three piers about two and a half miles out, marking the line between Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook Bay. Leonardo is one of Middletown's Bayshore sections, with working-waterfront and fishing-village roots, its own character and its own post office.

What It's Like to Live in Leonardo

Leonardo is on the north shore of Middletown Township, along Sandy Hook Bay. Route 36 forms its southern border, running about four miles east to Highlands and about eight miles west to Keyport.

The water is the main draw. The marina is owned and managed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and it has no fuel dock, so plan your boating around that. Sandy Hook, with its historic lighthouse and Fort Hancock, is a short drive for beach days east through Highlands.

For commuting, the Belford ferry terminal next door has weekday NY Waterway service to Downtown Manhattan, and the SeaStreak ferry runs from neighboring Highlands. The Middletown train station has NJ Transit service to New York Penn Station, usually 65 to 80 minutes depending on the train.

The Homes in Leonardo

Leonardo's housing is older and mostly single-family. On the current MLS list you'll see homes built in the 1920s and 1930s, some from the 1950s, and a new build from 2020. Current listings run from two-bedroom houses to four-bedroom homes. Leonardo is a bay community, so flood exposure is part of every purchase near the water.

As of October 2026, there are 8 active Leonardo homes on the MLS, listed from $350,000 to $1,125,000.

What to Know Before You Buy in Leonardo

Flood zones and insurance. Waterfront and near-water properties along the Bayshore need flood zone homework. Get current flood insurance costs and elevation requirements for the exact address before you commit.

The Navy next door. Earle's waterfront is in the Leonardo section, and Normandy Road links it to the base's main side about 12 miles south as a Navy-controlled road and rail corridor, so expect a federal installation as a neighbor.

Small inventory. With only a handful of listings at a time, the right house may not wait. Have financing ready before you start touring.

Schools. Leonardo is in Middletown Township Public Schools.
