Every week, I put together a roundup of what's happening around the Jersey Shore, from surf contests and hometown firemen's fairs to seafood festivals, live music, and rescue pups looking for a home. Here's what's happening this week:
- Barrier Island Classic Surf Contest (Island Beach State Park), Friday: a surf contest with local surfers competing to support beach conservation.
- Fair Haven Firemen's Fair, Friday through Saturday, then Monday through Saturday: rides, games, and tickets, running August 28 through September 5, closed Sunday August 30, with a Wednesday family night.
- Asbury Park Seafood & BBQ Festival (Bradley Park), Friday through Sunday: fresh seafood, award-winning BBQ, and live music on the boardwalk all weekend.
- 100 Waves for Recovery (Wooden Jetty, Holgate), Saturday: a Long Beach Island surf event supporting addiction recovery, 11 AM to 3 PM.
- Toms River Block Party (Washington Street), Saturday: live music, games, fire trucks, and food for the whole family, 11 AM to 5 PM.
- Long Branch Jazz & Blues Festival (Great Lawn & Promenade), Saturday: a free jazz and blues festival with fireworks at dark, 1 PM to 9 PM.
- Pitties & Pals Rescue Meet & Greet (Booter Beer Brewing Company), Saturday: meet adoptable rescue dogs looking for their forever homes, 11 AM to 1 PM.
- Red Bank Street Fair & Craft Show, Sunday: local artisans, live music, and food downtown, free admission, 11 AM to 5 PM.
